Cody Gatton has earned Athlete of the Month
honors for the month of December 2007.
Cody, a native of Rohnert Park, Ca., is in
his second season as a Keelhauler. The 6’
5”, 220 pound senior transferred to Cal
Maritime after playing at San Diego City
College.
Cody averaged 15.5 points in the month of
December, with a high of 19 in the
conference opener against Dominican
University. He chipped in 17 against a
nationally ranked Cal Baptist Squad, and 11
against the Red Hawks of Simpson
University. The highlight of the month was
his performance in the Menlo contest where
he scored 15 points and had 6 rebounds. It
was his last rebound that made the
difference in the game. Cal Maritime had
the ball and with less then 10 seconds
remaining in the game and the Keelhaulers
down by 1, Cody followed a missed shot and
snatched the offensive board. He then went
strong to the basket, giving the Keelhaulers
the lead with less then 2 seconds on the
clock. Cal Maritime was able to hold off a
last ditch effort by the Oaks, who were
previously unbeaten in the Cal Pac.
Cody is currently studying Business
Administration and looks to graduate in
2010.
