Sean Baptista, a native of Sacramento, Ca., has
been awarded the Athlete of the Month for the
month of October 2006. Sean attended Rio
American High School. As a first year student –
athlete with the Cal Maritime Men’s Water Polo
team, Sean has proven himself to be a well
rounded team player.
In the month of October, Sean rallied the
Keelhaulers to it’s best ranking in school
history, 19th in the country,
according to the Collegiate Water Polo
Association. Sean averaged over 4 goals a game,
totaling 54 for the season. He led all
Keelhaulers in scoring. Not only was he the
leading scorer for the Keelhaulers, but he also
contributed to the team’s success on offense by
providing 21 assists to his teammates.
Defensively, he dominated his opponents by
stealing the ball 15 times and repeatedly
denying the opposition the opportunity to score
with his aggressive style of play.
Not only has Sean proven himself as a powerful
athlete in the water, but he has also proven
himself to be a leader in the eyes of his
teammates.
Sean is currently studying mechanical
engineering here at the California Maritime
Academy.
