The
Keelhaulers of the California Maritime
Academy were victorious over the
Pioneers of Cal State East Bay tonight
by the score of 71-58 before an
enthusiastic home crowd.
Maritime
was led by Simon Heller's steller
shooting performace as he netted 16
points on 4 of 7 from the three point
line. He was joined in double
figures by Steve Barrera and Cody Gatton
who each scored 12 points. Andy
Johnson continued his strong play at the
point guard position with six assists
and only two turnovers.
Cal State
East Bay was led by Jawaan Rubin (13
points) and Melvin Fleming (12 points)
as the Pioneers shot a blistering 47%
from the three point line. Rubin
also had a strong overall floor game
with five assists and five rebounds.
"Our
players did an excellent job of trusting
each other tonight both offensively and
defensively. This trust allowed us
to play with confidence and beat a very
talented team from Cal State East Bay,"
Head Coach Bryan Rooney commented after
the win.
With the
win, Maritime improves to 5-2 in the
California Pacific Conference. The
Keelhaulers head into an important
conference match-up on Saturday as they
travel to Holy Names. Holy Names
entered tonight's contest against Menlo
College in first place. Tip off in
Oakland is scheduled for 4:00pm
