Although it
required an extra ten minutes to decide
the victor, the Keelhaulers of the
California Maritime Academy were
victorious tonight with an 85-77 win in
double overtime over the Redhawks of
Simpson University.
Both at the
end of regulation and at the end of the
first overtime, Maritime was forced to
come up with a defensive stop.
Each time, the defense rose to occasion.
In a game that saw multiple swings in
momentum, the Keelhaulers rode the last
wave with six straight clutch free
throws to seal the game.
The
Keelhaulers were led by Will William's
24 points. Cody Gatton (21 points), Andy
Johnson (13 points), and Simon Heller
(12 points) joined Williams in double
figures. Gatton also grabbed ten
rebounds and played tremendous defense
against all conference performer Alex
Nixon.
The
Redhawks were led by Glenn Payne's 26
points. Markise Morrison also
chipped in with 15 points off the bench.
Simpson was led in rebounding by Dwight
Bond with 8.
With the
win, Maritime improves to 11-10 overall
and 6-4 in the California Pacific
Conference. Maritime will be back in action against
Menlo College on Tuesday at
7:30pm in the friendly confines at
Morrow Cove.
Go
