Scotts Valley, CA --
Senior Tom Kreta's 21 points on
eight-of-nine shooting led the
Keelhaulers to their fourth win in five
California Pacific Conference games, a
83-55 victory at Bethany College on
Tuesday night.
The Keelhaulers (8-6 overall, 4-1 in the
CalPac) bounced back from a tough loss
to Menlo College on Saturday afternoon,
breaking open a once-tight matchup with
a blistering 29-0 run to begin the
second half. Junior Cody Gatton was the
workhorse for the Keelhaulers during
their big push, pounding the ball inside
for 10 straight points. Gatton finished
with 14, while junior guard Mikey
Ferguson added 11, and senior Praise
Odo-Boms and sophomore Craig Dull
contributed 10 apiece.
Odo-Boms also finished with 13 rebounds,
as the Keelhaulers dominated the
rebounding by a 46-26 margin.
"Our performance in the second half was
as good as our exection has been all
year," said Keelhaulers head coach Tim
Harrison. "How competitive we are in the
CalPac will depend on how well we can
continue executing our offense, and how
intense we can be on the defensive end
of the floor."
In limiting Bethany to only 14
second-half points, Cal Maritime held
the Wildcats to 23 percent shooting.
Bethany's leading scorer, Earnest
Williams, finished with 19 points, but
was harried into a five-for-17 night
from the floor.
Thursday night, the Keelhaulers travel
to William Jessup University (Rocklin,
CA) for a match-up of the top two teams
in the conference. Jessup sits atop the
CalPac standings with a 5-0 mark,
leading the Keelhaulers by a single
game. |
