Vallejo,
Calif. ---Cal Maritime head men’s
basketball coach Bryan Rooney has
announced the signing of Sierra College
standout guard Haven Piatt. Haven
recently finished an outstanding career
at Sierra where he played for head coach
John Fusano.
Haven
established himself as a top performer
for the Wolverines in a variety of
statistical areas. During league play,
he was the team’s second leading scorer
at 13.1 points per game and led the team
in assists and steals. His scoring
average also placed him in the top ten
for the entire conference. Piatt was an
extremely efficient player as he shot
over 42% from three point range and 88%
from the free throw line. In addition,
Haven served as a team captain this year
for Sierra. For his efforts, he was
named First Team All Conference in the
Big 8 Conference, considered one of the
best conferences in the state.
Piatt also
enjoyed success in high school as he led
Lincoln High School to a section
championship and was named first team
all league and first team all city.
Haven averaged over 21 points per game.
An outstanding student, Piatt will
enroll in Cal Maritime's International
Business program in the fall.
“We are very
excited to have Haven join us! He played
in an excellent program at Sierra and
his game certainly reflects this. While
he can really score the ball, his
unselfishness and toughness are
championship level. Our program is not
only gaining a very good player but more
importantly a very good person,”
commented Coach Rooney.
Cal Maritime
finished the 2008-09 season with a
school record 17 wins including a 9-7
record in the California Pacific
Conference. The Keelhaulers earned a bid
to the Cal Pac Conference Championships
and advanced in the playoffs as far as
any Cal Maritime team ever has. The
2009-2010 seasons begins when the
Keelhaulers travel to participate in the
Cal Baptist Lancer Classic.
