The
2008-2009 California Maritime Academy
roster boasts two new student-athletes
with the commitments of Andy Medeiros
from Napa Valley College and Eddie
Williams from San Joaquin Delta College.
Both will be looked upon to make
immediate contributions in continuing
the progress of the men's
basketball program.
Medeiros is
a 6'1" point guard who recently finished
a stellar two year career playing for
Napa Valley Head Coach Steve
Ball. Andy was twice named an All
Bay Valley Conference member. This
past season he led his team in scoring
putting up 15.7 points per game. Andy
also led the Storm in
assists as well as free throw shooting.
He was a major reason for Napa Valley
being a playoff contender for the entire
season.
"I am very
excited about coming to Maritime.
I feel that we have the chance to do
some special
things!" Medeiros said after signing his
letter of intent.
Coach
Rooney was equally excited, "We
identified Andy early in the recruiting
year because number one, he is a very
talented player. More importantly,
however, he is a dedicated student and
the way in which he carries himself
allows him to be a great leader. I
look forward to his leadership for the
next two years."
Eddie
Williams is a 6'4" guard who has the
opportunity to have an outstanding
career at Maritime. During the
2005-2006 season at Delta, he was an
important contributor on a team that
advanced to the Elite Eight of the
California Junior College playoffs.
Williams sat out the past two seasons
due to a knee injury.
With his
injury healed, Williams is looking
forward to getting the chance to play
for the Keelhaulers, " I am extremely
happy about continuing my career at
Maritime. It is a place where I
will be able to take advantage of a
great education and also, I was drawn to
the positive direction of the program.
I am looking forward to getting back on
the court."
"The sky is
the limit with Eddie. He is very
motivated coming off the injury and the
most positive thing is he is
hungry. I am really looking
forward to coaching him the next three
years," Rooney concluded after Williams
signed his letter of intent.
"This is a
very good day for our program.
With the commitments of Andy and Eddie,
we have two players who are used to
winning. Both have tremendous
drive and will be great assets to not
only our basketball program
but also to our school community,"
commented Head Coach Bryan Rooney.
