(Morrow Cove, Ca.,
July 16th, 2007) Cal Maritime Athletic
Director Marv Christopher has tapped
Bryan Rooney as the school’s new men’s
basketball coach. Rooney succeeds Tim
Harrison who stepped down this spring to
devote more time to his work in the
Academy’s Enrollment Management office.
Over his three-year tenure, Harrison
guided the Keelhauler team from dead
last to third place in the final
standings of the Cal Pacific Conference.
Coach Rooney previously served
as Assistant Coach at Claremont McKenna
College, and is excited about the
prospects for his first head coaching
position. “We have a solid core of
returning members, including Cody Gatton,
Simon Heller, Steve Barrera, Craig Dull,
and John Stiles, and several promising
incoming recruits. Tim did a superb job
in giving the program new life and
recruiting solid student-athletes, and I
hope to build on that record of
success.”
Coach Rooney has also held
assistant coaching positions at San
Francisco State and Dominican
University, making him familiar with the
area’s collegiate basketball programs
and with the Cal Pacific Conference. At
Dominican he helped guide the team to
back-to-back Conference Championships
and consecutive trips to the National
Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
(NAIA) Nationals. Coach Rooney is a
graduate of Dominican with an
undergraduate degree in English and a
Master’s degree in Education. He was
captain of Dominican’s first Conference
Championship team and earned All
Conference and Team MVP Honors. He and
wife Jennifer live in Concord, CA.
