The Cal Maritime
Keelhaulers return for the 2007 season on the
heels of perhaps their strongest performance as
a club team. After finishing league play with a
6-2 record, a disappointing finish at the
conference championships fuels the upcoming
season with renewed energy. Cal Maritime has
added talented freshman to a group of
experienced upper classman to make another run
at the conference championship. Cal Maritime
returns five starters this year. Cal Maritime
return’s MVP Phil Spann, top scorer Sean
Baptista, CB specialist Nick Beene, perimeter
ace Peter Dorrance and goal keeper Steve
Lafrenze… who with one of the best arms on the
team will play the field and give incoming
freshman sensation Ben Gomez a shot at keeping
goal.
Will incoming freshman and
transfers contribute to Keelhauler success?
Eric Macey, Paul Bergin, Josh Knight and Dan
Loman will add quick, smart and opportunistic
experience this season.
CMA opens the season with
games against Cal and Saint Mary’s on Saturday,
Sep. 15th at Cunningham pool. The following
weekend (Sept. 21-23) at UCD will test the
Keelhaulers with the top ranked schools in the
country. UCLA, Texas A&M, and Michigan State,
who was ranked #1 in the country in the
pre-season polls, will meet the
Keelhaulers in pre-conference competition.
One of the most challenging
tournaments of the year pits Cal Maritime
against teams at the Claremont Convergence. The
Keelhaulers play Claremont McKenna-Mudd,
Washington & Jefferson, and Whittier College
before tackling league opponents.
The 2007 season promises to
include the Keelhaulers in the conference and
country's elite teams. |
