Cal Maritime Rugby
History
|
In 1998, the
Barquentine "Fantome"
tragically
sunk in Hurricane "Mitch" off the
coast of the Honduras.
Captain Paddy Shrimpton and Peter McGroarty, who were
both former masters
on board the vessel, were at the time developing a new
"Rugby" program at the
California Maritime Academy
The club name of "Fantomes" was brought about to honor
the 31 lives lost on
board the Fantome, and to honor all seafarers around the
world who face the
elements everyday.
It's with that honor and tradition that we choose to
play the game of RUGBY!
