Cal Maritime Defeats League Rivals Santa Rosa JC in Pre-Season

(Vallejo, CA, Nov 14, 2009) – Cal Maritime started slowly against league rivals Santa Rosa JC but did enough in the second half to win 17-3.

The game was the second game for the Keelhaulers during the pre-season against a much improved Santa Rosa outfit who were solid throughout their team.

Both teams were strong in defense during the first half scoring only a penalty each to take the break all tied at 3-3.

In the second half Cal Maritime exerted more pressure and scored tries through Freshman Lonnie Shankling and Rufus.

In the reserve grade game, Cal Maritime defeated Santa Rosa JC again by a score of 17-12 with two tries from Jason Herring and Blake Cowan.

“Our lineout has improved but we are still struggling to impose our game”, said coach Edward Roberts. “We are showing improvement and working hard but we must  continue to develop our team cohesion”.

The next game for Cal Maritime is against Stanford in a friendly on Saturday Dec 5.
