Cal Maritime Loses to Diablo Gaels Under 23’s

(Pleasant Hill, CA, Feb 21, 2009) – Cal Maritime fielded a team of underclassmen against the Diablo Gaels U23’s and lost in a close score of 12-8.

Freshman, Kevin Raff opened the scoring for the Keelhaulers through a penalty early in the first half. While Cal Maritime dominated much of the possession during the first half, they were unable to score a try.

In the second half, the Keelhaulers scored a try through Freshman Kevin Hawke following one of the rare pieces of multi-phase play.

Diablo scored two tries to secure the victory.

“We tested our depth today and learned some valuable lessons”, said coach Edward Roberts. “We need to be more effective with the ball we win”.

The next game for Cal Maritime is against Humboldt State in a league game on Saturday Feb 28, 2009.
