Cal Maritime Over Humboldt State
(Vallejo, CA – March 13, 2020) – The sun was shining for the first game of the year on Cal Maritime as they ran in six tries to defeat the LumberJacks of Humboldt State by a score of 34-3.
Wing Kevin Hawke scored two tries in a solid all around performance with the first try coming from the kick off after only 11 seconds.
Grant Ginilo scored a close range try to increase the lead before Hawke scored his second to make the half-time score 15-3.
Cal Maritime scored 19 unanswered points in the second half with tries from Kyle Lewis, Paul Stetson and Ramsey Brown. Rufus Walker added two conversions.
“The field was still soft because of the rain but we played with more control this week”, said coach Edward Roberts. “Humboldt are always physical and this year was no different.”
The win takes Cal Maritime to 6-1 in the league with one game left to play.
The Keelhaulers travel to Santa Clara for the final league game on Saturday March 20, 2010.
