(Vallejo, CA, December 5, 2008) – In their second pre-season game, Cal Maritime faced their Division II rivals Santa Rosa Junior College. Under the Friday night lights, the Keelhaulers controlled the game scoring eleven tries as they overwhelmed Santa Rosa JC by 67-0.
With the first try taking only a minute to score, the first half saw Cal Maritime move the ball effectively and penetrate the Santa Rosa defense. Six more tries quickly followed during the first half as two Keelhaulers, David Vander Hoek and wing Kirk Mueller each scored a hat-trick.
However, wing Kevin Randel’s didn’t want to be outdone and scored a personal tally of four tries.
With the half time score of 41-0, the Cal Maritime team were in control.
During the second half, Cal Maritime lost their rhythm as Santa Rosa stepped up their defensive pressure.
“We played well in the first half and it was good to see our scrum improve”, said coach Edward Roberts. “However our lineout is still not performing and we need to answer the questions being asked of us”.

In the 2nd XV game, Cal Maritime hosted St Mary’s 2nds/3rds XV and were defeated 34-19.
