Cal Maritime hosts Lamorinda for First
Time
(Vallejo, January 11, 2007) – In their
final pre-season game, Cal Maritime
score two tries
against an experienced Lamorinda U23’s
team in bitterly cold conditions. Cal
Maritime hosted
the new team from Lamorinda for the
first time and but ended up losing
25-15.
Rufus Walker opened the scoring for
Cal Maritime with a well taken penalty
before rookie
Jack Emerson scored his first try
for the Keelhaulers from a break in the
middle of the field. The score was
finely balanced at 10-8 at half time.
Captain
Michael Schindler stormed through a
few tackles to score the other try in
the second
half which was converted by
Joel Bruce.
Lamorinda’s experience showed in their
performance to score three tries in the
second half.
“We played well in patches and our
forwards are providing a solid platform
but with such a
young team we are still developing our
game sense. We need to get more accuracy
in our play
as the season begins. We will be working
on improving our intensity and helping
the new players take control of the
team’s performance.”
Cal Maritime’s next game is the season
opener against Santa Clara on Jan 20.
Tries: Emerson, Schindler.
Cons: Bruce.
Pens: Walker.
