Wounded Cal Maritime Defeats Inexperienced San Jose State

(Vallejo, March 4, 2006) – After a difficult loss to Santa Rosa JC last week, Cal Maritime
bounced back to score 16 tries against San Jose State to win 96-7.

San Jose State fielded an inexperienced team that kept competing until the end but could not
stop the onslaught of tries from the Keelhaulers.

Full back Chris Rathbun contributed 17 points with six conversions and one try while flanker
Adrian Kearns led the team in try-scoring by crossing the Spartan's line three times. Prop Chris
Flannery
, wing Brian Miller and center Sean Jenkins both scored two tries each. Tries were also
scored by wing Frank Busalacchi, prop Michael Schindler, No.8 Tony LaVella, lock Tony
Maude
, scrum half Phil Tabyanan and fullback Eric Piper.

The win was Cal Maritime’s largest victory ever in the team’s eight year history and takes their
league record to 4-2.

“We scored some good tries today and even though we changed the team up, all players
contributed to a good performance”, said Coach Edward Roberts. “We still have to work on
our support play but scoring 16 tries is a very solid improvement.”

Cal Maritime plays their last league game when they travel to Humboldt State on Saturday,
March 11, 2006 (Kick off 1pm).

Tries: Kearns (3), Flannery (2), Miller (2), Jenkins (2), Busalacchi, Schindler, LaVella, Maude, Rathbun,
Tabyanan, Piper

Pens: Rathbun (6), Piper (2)
