Cal Maritime Fails to Turn Pressure into Points
(Vallejo, Dec 8, 2006) – In their third pre-season game,
Cal Maritime hosted Santa Rosa JC on
Friday night providing a preview into their Division 2
game scheduled for March 2007. Santa Rosa claimed the
victory 31-0 on a wet and windy night at Bodnar Field in
Vallejo.
Santa Rosa started much more energetically than the
Keelhaulers and scored two quick tries in the first five
minutes. Cal Maritime eventually woke up and after a
period of sustained pressure in the Santa Rosa 22 were
only thwarted from scoring by stern defense.
After half time, Santa Rosa were quick to score again
and sealed the result.
“Santa Rosa played well, and unfortunately, we took too
long to get into gear,” said coach Edward Roberts. “We
didn’t really control field position today and our
lineout wasn’t up to our usual standard but we had
periods where we put pressure on Santa Rosa but failed
to convert that pressure into points. We need to be more
ruthless at scoring when we are in position rather than
letting our opponents off the hook.”
Cal Maritime’s next game is against Lamorinda U23’s on
Jan 11, 2007 in Vallejo.
