Four Try Haul Helps Defeat USF

(Vallejo, Feb 24, 2006) – Cal Maritime wing Kevin Mehrer scored four tries to help the
Keelhaulers defeat University of San Francisco 44-5.

On a perfect night for rugby, Cal Maritime scored eight tries in total by adopting a well rounded
attacking game.

Kevin Mehrer opened the scoring from an attacking scrum and quickly followed with his second
try after a break by David Kopra. Full back Phil Tabyanan ran a good line to accept a scoring
pass from Nate Housman. Mehrer followed with two more tries to leave the half time score at
27-0.

Prop Michael Schindler barreled over the line to score in the second half. Wing Steve Kuzmanic
scored in the corner following a good break and pass by Tabyanan before a forward drive saw
flanker Adrian Kearns score near the posts.

“It was a more balanced performance today. I was particularly impressed by our kicking game
which helped us control field position”, said Coach Edward Roberts. “There is a hunger in this
team that keeps seeking better performances. Tonight was a big improvement.”

Cal Maritime hosts Santa Rosa Junior College on Monday night.

Monday Feb 27 - Santa Rosa Junior College (Kick-off 7pm)

Tries: Mehrer (4), Tabyanan, Schindler, Kuzmanic, Kearns
