Player of the
Week
March
13, 2006
On
Wednesday night, March 8th, the Women's Water Polo team
earned its first-ever win with a victory over St Mary's
College by a score of 9 - 6. If you are looking
for the key to the win, look no further than in the
goal. Freshman goalie Bree Ogden (San Clemente,
CA/San Clemente HS) recorded a career-high 16 saves to
lead the Keelhaulers to the win.
Odgen,
playing in only her 12th game ever, showed plenty of
poise as the Gaels fired away from everywhere in the
pool. Her saves and quick outlet passes helped Cal
Maritime to keep the pressure on St Mary's the entire
game.
With the
game on the line in the fourth quarter, Bree came up
with the biggest save of the game with about 1:30 left
in the game. St Mary's had staged a furious
comeback, and had scored 4 unanswered goals to close the
score to 8 - 6. After a CMA turnover, the Gaels
had a 3 on 2 fastbreak into their offensive end.
St Mary's took a hard shot from the left side, which
Ogden was able to knock down, effectively ending the
threat and preserving the win.
According
to Coach Torchiana, "Bree continues to improve with each
game, mostly by instinct. Of all the great saves
she made in the game, that last one was the key.
The coaching staff is very pleased with how well she has
progressed this year."
