2-3 Dec 2005 - Southwestern Tournament
The Cal Maritime Women’s basketball program enjoyed
another successful road trip over the 2nd and
3rd of December in Phoenix, Arizona. In the
first contest, the Keelhaulers were challenged by Life
Pacific College of San Dimas, Ca. The Keelhaulers
played very well on the defensive end and held Life
Pacific to only 36 points, while pouring in 50
themselves. The balanced scoring attack was led by
Clarisse Osegueda and Laneesh Salahuddin, who both had
12 points. Stacey Sorenson also helped out the scoring
effort with 10 points, and Katie Maddox chipped in 8
points. Jennifer Wadsworth and Laneesh Salahuddin
controlled the offensive and defensive boards. Maurisa
Rondeau and Jennifer Tutass played key roles off the
bench. The Keelhauler defense forced over 30
turnovers.
In their second
game in two days, Cal Maritime played host school
Southwestern
College of Phoenix, Az. Cal Maritime started off very
strong and jumped out to a
quick lead which was held through the first half ending
at 26-20. In the second half, the Southwestern Eagles
came out to a quick run and took a 2 point lead. Although Cal
Maritime played well on both ends of the court they came
up 2 points short. The final score was 51-49. Leading
the offense was Katie Maddox with 24 points, and Stacey
Sorenson with 9 points.
The Keelhaulers are 2-4 overall and heading into
conference play on Friday, December 9th
against Cal State East Bay. This will be the first game
at home for the Keelhaulers this year. Tip off is at
5:30 with the Men’s game following.
