Cal Maritime Women’s Basketball
team takes 2nd at Maritime Cup in Castine
Maine. The first night of action the Keelhaulers
dominated the game with great team defense and solid
offense from everyone. The scoring was very balanced
with
Lauren Westbrook leading the way with 13 points.
Nakia Watson,
Jessica Cannon, and
Katie Maddox all chipped in with 12, while 8 other
Keelhaulers were good on their baskets. Cal Maritime
lead 52-14 at the half and tightened up there defense
and only allowed 3 points in the second half on there
way to a 87-17 victory.
In the championship game once again
the Keelhaulers defense kept them in the game but a
tough shooting night in the first half, converting on
only 1 field goal. Cal Maritime fell behind early
30-11. In the second half the Keelhaulers came alive
and scored 32 points to narrow the gap but it was too
little too late. The Keelhaulers were lead by
Nakia Watson with 14 points, while
Alyssa Reyes and
Katie Maddox each added 8.
Both Watson and Reyes were named to
the all-tournament team for their outstanding play. The
Keelhaulers are moving in the right direction and look
to compete with the top teams in the Cal Pac Conference.
Conference play is set to begin on Dec. 7th at 5:30
in Cal Maritime's Mayo Hall, with the
men following at 7:30.
