Sunday 11-5-06

The Cal Maritime Women's Basketball team opened it's season on Sunday at home with a 67-53 loss to the Owls of Oregon Tech (2-1).  In front of a standing room only crowd the Keelhaulers (0-1) fell behind early in the first half which proved to be the difference in the game.  Oregon Tech jumped out to a 35-18 lead at half time.  Behind a strong defensive effort by the Keelhaulers in the second half Cal Maritime got to with in 7 points with 6 minutes to go, but could not get over the hump.  

Cal Maritime was lead by Freshman Jessica Cannon with 15 points and 5 rebounds.  Stacey Sorenson ripped down 9 rebounds and chipped in 6 points.  Katie Maddox had a solid defensive game with 6 blocks.  Oregon Tech was led by Jenna Ball with 20. 

The Keelhaulers head up to Oregon this weekend to take on Oregon Tech for a rematch Friday and Southern Oregon University on Sunday.
