Cal Maritime Crew
Head of the Lagoon – November 13th
The Cal Maritime crew team completed the fall
head race season with a strong showing at the
Head of the Lagoon, a 5-kilometer race held in
Foster City. The Keelhaulers competed in three
races – the men’s frosh/novice eight, the men’s
open four, and the mixed eight (men and women).
In the men’s frosh/novice race, the Keelhaulers’
crew of Domonique Pongun (coxswain), Matt
Mossinger, Grant Hager, Jack Rouse, Tyler Burns,
Jacob Benz, Mike Hess, Joe Swindel, and Ken
Christie finished in third place behind Stanford
and Sonoma State in a time of twenty minutes and
fifty-one seconds. The men’s open four of Emily
Ramos (coxswain), Tommy Stillwachs, Jake
DeMello, Jon Daniel, and Mike Miller also
finished third behind Marin Rowing and Santa
Clara University in a time of 21:55. Finally,
the mixed eight of Emily Ramos (coxswain),
Jessica Wood, Helen Longo, Matt Mossinger, Grant
Hager, Jack Rouse, Evan Osborne, Julie Dodson,
and Hannah Reeves finished third in a time of
22:23.
The Keelhaulers finish their fall season at the
Long Beach Christmas Regatta, an 850-meter
sprint, on December 4th.
