Cal Maritime Crew
Head of the American - 30 Oct 04
After rowing at a
drizzly venue to begin the fall racing season,
the Cal Maritime Keelhaulers returned to
Sacramento, California on a picture-perfect day
to race in the Head of the American at Lake
Natoma. The 3-mile course offered ideal
conditions and allowed CMA to build upon the
momentum established two weeks prior at the Head
of the Port.
Racing against
crews from USC, Cal Berkeley, Long Beach State,
Sac State and other universities and clubs, the
Keelhaulers put together strong performances in
each of their races. The women’s open four of
Ruth Cervantes (coxswain), Julie Dodson, Heather
Higgins, Alicia Bryant, and Jenna Berkey
finished the course in a time of 24 minutes and
54 seconds, in a race that included USC, Cal,
Long Beach State, and UC Santa Barbara. The open
four of Emily Ramos (coxswain), Nick Moore, Pat
Ciulla, Cameron Haynie, and Kate Barrett
finished in a time of 23:39. The men’s novice
eight of Ruth Cervantes (coxswain), Georgon
Lapham, Michael Mees, Billy Dick, Konrad
Bruesehoff, Andrew Libby, Kevin Reinhardt,
Stephen Coutts and Shane Kennedy finished in a
time of 21:23, ahead of crews from Stanford and
Cal. The men’s open eight also turned in a
strong time, finishing the course in a time of
19:28, ahead of crews from Stanford and the CSUS
Aquatic Center.
Cal Maritime
travels next to Newport Beach in Southern
California for the Newport Autumn Rowing
Festival on November 7.
