Head of the
Port - 16 Oct
05
The Cal Maritime crew team opened up its fall
racing season with a strong performance at the
Head of the Port in Sacramento, California, on
October 16th.

The 5-kilometer course included a long, sweeping
curve for a major portion of the race. The
Keelhaulers competed in two events – the men’s
open eight and the women’s open four. Against
crews from UC Davis and Sonoma State University,
the CMA crew of Matt Mossinger, Kenneth
Christie, Grant Hager, Joe Swindel, Jacob Benz,
Tyler Burns, Jake DeMello, Tommy Stillwachs, and
Emily Ramos (coxswain), finished in a time of 21
minutes and 44 seconds in the men’s open eight.
The women’s four of Helen Longo, Ana Lisa
Stewart, Hannah Reeves, Jessica Wood, and Julie
Dodson (coxswain) finished in 34:13 against
crews from UC Berkeley, Sonoma State and Bair
Island.
The regatta will serve as a strong foundation
for the Keelhaulers’ next few races, including
the Head of the Charles in Boston on October
22nd and the Head of the American in Sacramento
on October 29th.
