Cal Maritime Crew
Crew team impressive at Lake Natoma
After a strong first race at the Head of the
Port, the Cal Maritime crew team headed to
the east side of Sacramento for the Head of
the American, a 3-mile regatta on the flat
water of Lake Natoma. The Keelhaulers
competed in 5 races. Julie Dodson
finished second in the women’s open water
single in a time of 31:33, despite having to
make footstretcher repairs on the water.
In the men’s lightweight four, the crew of
Matt Moore (coxswain), Joe Swindel, Blake
Glassco, Ryan Reiger, and Chris Bushaw
placed second in a time of 20:36.
Competing against Cal Berkeley, Sac State,
Sonoma State, UOP, and Humboldt, the men’s
novice eight of Liz Vuong (coxswain), Chris
Lemon, James Dumont, Mike Walker, Mack
Sandison, Andrew Legayada, Brian Gin, George
Garten, and Sprig Allan finished fourth in a
time of 19:38, just 12 seconds behind Sonoma
State. In the women’s open four, the
crew of Liz Vuong (coxswain), Megan Braun,
Beth Runciman, Mariko Abe, and Kristin
Swader competed against 16 other teams,
including crews from USC, Cal Berkeley, UC
Davis, Loyola Marymount, Mills, and Sonoma
State, finishing in a time of 23:14.
In the men’s open four, the crew of Emily
Ramos (coxswain), Matt Mossinger, Jake
DeMello, Chris Beuret, and Mike Hess,
finished in a time of 19:39 against teams
from Sac State, UC Davis, Cal Berkeley,
Santa Clara and Humboldt.
