Newport Autumn Rowing Festival – November 6^th

The Cal Maritime crew team traveled to Southern California on November 6^th to compete in the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival in Newport Beach.  On a beautiful day with calm water, the Keelhaulers competed in three events – the men’s frosh/novice eight, the men’s open four, and the women’s open four.  Last-minute changes in line-ups forced the crews to make some adjustments, but all three did well in their races. 

In the men’s frosh/novice race, the Keelhaulers’ novice crew of Helen Longo (coxswain), Joe Swindel, Evan Osborne, Jack Rouse, Jacob Benz, Tyler Burns, Mike Hess, Ken Christie, and Tom Norton finished in a time of eighteen minutes and thirteen seconds against 21 other entries, including Stanford, USC, UCLA and Cal Berkeley.  The men’s open four of Emily Ramos (coxswain), Tommy Stillwachs, Jake DeMello, Matt Mossinger, and Grant Hager competed against eighteen other crews, including Stanford, Long Beach State, and UCLA and finished in a time of 18:10.  The women’s open four of Jessica Wood, Julie Dodson, AnaLisa Stewart, and Hannah Reeves finished in a time of 22:12 against twelve other crews, including SDSU, ASU and Cal Berkeley.
