The Keelhaulers of the
California Maritime Academy got
back on the winning track with a
57-47 victory over visiting
Menlo College. With the
win, Maritime improves their
league record to 3-2 and the
team has won 6 of their last 7
contests.
The Keelhaulers were
able to get back on the right
track defensively as they held
Menlo to 19 first half points
and only allowed the Oaks to
shoot 25% from the field during
the first session. The
defensive commitment continued
in the second half as the Oaks
shot a combined 29% for the
game.
Offensively, Maritime
received excellent balance as
four starters scored in double
figures (Alex Raj, John Stiles,
Zac Kinman, and Andrew Johnson)
and Andrew Medeiros led the team
with 6 assists while playing an
excellent floor game. Raj
led the team with 11 rebounds
including 3 on the offensive
end.
Menlo was led in scoring by
Brandon Cochran, who scored 12
points. Andrew Young
finished with 7 rebounds.
"Our players responded
very well tonight. In our
last game, we allowed William
Jessup to take us away from our
identity of playing hard-nosed
defense. Fortunately, we
received some outstanding
leadership, which led us to the
win,"
commented Head Coach Bryan
Rooney.
Maritime hits the road for
their next three contests as
they travel to Simpson
University on Thursday before a
league contest against Bethany
University on Saturday and a
non-league tussle with UC Santa
Cruz. The Keelhaulers return to
the friendly confines of Morrow
Cove a week from Thursday as 1st
place Cal State East Bay visits.
Game time is 7:30pm
