The Keelhaulers of the
California Maritime Academy opened up
their home schedule with a hard-fought
48-46 win over the Beacons of Northwest
Christian University Saturday night.
The win improves Maritime to 1-1 on the
season. The win was significant in
many ways including the fact that
Northwest Christian played the
University of Oregon very tough in an
exhibition game and had beaten their
first two opponents by a combined 70
points.
John Stiles led the team
with his first double double of the
season registering 11 points and 10
rebounds. Alex Raj and Andrew
Medeiros also joined Stiles in double
figures with 10 points each. Raj
contributed 7 rebounds as well.
"Our defense in the
second half was very good. We held
them to 27% from the field and that
effort changed the game in our favor.
We had an excellent week of practice
after a tough loss and it was nice to
see our players enjoy the fruits of
their labor," commented Head Coach Bryan
Rooney.
The Keelhaulers return
to action this Friday at home against
Golden State Baptist at 7:30pm.
The game marks the second game in a home
stand that has Maritime playing in the
friendly confines of Morrow Cove four
out of their next five games.
