Vallejo,
Calif.---Cal Maritime head men’s
basketball coach Bryan Rooney has
announced the commitment of San Joaquin
Delta College guard Travell Pinkston.
Travell recently finished a very
productive career at Delta where he
played for head coach Rich Ressa.
When asked to give a phrase to describe
Pinkston, Rooney responded, "He is a
winner!" The statistics certainly
back up that statement as Travell was
part of two league championship teams at
Delta and in two years his teams won 55
games compared to 14 losses.
Pinkston was instrumental in one of
Delta's biggest victories of the year, a
win over San Diego City College, in the
California State Playoffs. He scored 9
points, had two assists and did an
excellent job handling intense ball
pressure. The victory moved Delta
into the Final Four of the state
playoffs. .
“Travell has
the opportunity to have an outstanding
career at Cal Maritime. He
possesses excellent quickness and has
the ability to make a significant
difference with his on ball defense.
With that said, the thing that stands
out most about him is that he has always
been on winning teams. This is not
by accident, he is a winner!,” commented
Coach Rooney.
Travell
will be a student in Cal Maritime’s
Business program when he starts
school in the Fall.
Cal Maritime
finished the 2008-09 season with a
school record 17 wins including a 9-7
record in the California Pacific
Conference. The Keelhaulers earned a bid
to the Cal Pac Conference Championships
and advanced in the playoffs as far as
any Cal Maritime team ever has. The
2009-2010 seasons begins when the
Keelhaulers travel to participate in the
Cal Baptist Lancer Classic.
