The Cal Maritime Men's water polo
team traveled to UC Davis to compete
in the Pacific Coast Cross-Overs
held in Davis, Ca. The
Keelhaulers went 2-2 over the
weekend.
The Keelhaulers currently possess a
record of 4-4 in conference and have
qualified to compete for the
conference championships held in San
Luis Obispo at Cal Poly. Out of 16
teams, CMA is seeded in the eight
spot.
On Saturday, Oct 18th, Cal Maritime
saw action against the Trojans of
USC and the Tritons of UC San Diego.
Game one was with a very talented
USC team but came up short as CMA
prevailed 14 to 12. The second
contest of the day matched CMA with
UC San Diego. A 13 to 6 losing
effort was over-shadowed by a poor
shooting performance by the
Keelhaulers, missing 15 shots
on-goal.
On Sunday, Oct 19th, The Keelhaulers
were short handed due to a class
conflict with some of the
student-athletes. While three
Keelhaulers attended a fire fighting
class, Coach Tiger had to lean on
his bench to fill in the holes.
Game three was with an improved St.
Mary's College, but CMA came out
strong and the shooting was much
improved earning a 21-9 victory.
In the final game of the weekend,
the Keelhaulers had another
opportunity to play Chico State, a
squad that boasts a roster of over
30. The game was tied after
the first quarter 3-3, and at the
half Cal Maritime was down by a goal
with the score 6-5. Chico's
size strength eventually wore down
the Keelhaulers, and the final score
ended up 13-6.
Ben Gomez had an excellent weekend
in the goal, averaging 11 saves a
game.
Eric Macey led all scorers with 9
goals.
Sean Baptista and freshman Andrew
Gonzales netted 7 goals each.
Freshman Adam Ragus scored 5.
Josh Knight had 3.
Freshman Henry Hendrix had 2.
John Dabelich, David Prater and Paul
Casken each scored 1.
