Victory over
Western
Washington
(Orem, UT,
April 5,
2008) – On
just sixteen
hours of
rest after
losing to
Utah Valley,
Cal Maritime
played
Western
Washington
in the
consolation
play-off
game. The
game was the
last of the
season for
both teams
and they
provided an
exciting
contest
which Cal
Maritime won
by 22-17.
Cal Maritime
again
started
strongly and
quickly
scored 17
points for
the second
consecutive
game through
tries from
Bobbie
Rather,
Kevin Randel
and John
Skoda.
Western
Washington
also scored
two first
half tries
to make the
score 17-12
at the
break.
The second
half saw
both teams
struggle
with their
fitness at
altitude in
Utah and
each team
scored only
five points
in the
entire 40
minutes.
For Cal
Maritime
Bobbie
Rather
scored
again.
The game
ends the
season for
Cal Maritime
but is used
to create
next
season’s
play-off
seedings.
“To play on
only 16
hours rest
is harsh,
maybe the
scheduling
of kick-off
times can be
re-examined.”,
said coach
Edward
Roberts.
“But our
players
picked
themselves
off the
floor and
gave a
performance
they can be
proud of.
This team
has the
potential to
go further
next
season”.
